If you follow tech news, good old taxi cab companies have been fighting Uber and Lyft on all fronts for over a year now. The arguments by both sides are very well discussed so I will not get into that. Instead, I want to focus on the fact that Taxi cab firms are not realizing who their real enemy is- zero technology innovation in the past 40 years or so.

Taxis around the world operate pretty much the same way since the past few decades. You either wait waving on the roadside hoping to get lucky or call a cab company to book a taxi, generally at least a few hours before hand. Both the methods are very very high friction and unreliable at best. Mobile apps have disrupted the space by just taking all the friction away and giving customers instant real time feedback when they are waiting for their cab to arrive.

The irony is that it is a fairly simple technology because of the state of smartphone tech today. Taxi companies instead are fighting legal battles with Lyft and Uber as if they have invented something that the cab companies cannot and have some kind of monopoly. An little over an year ago, when I used Lyft for the first time in San Francisco, I thought this is revolution. But I also thought that almost all taxi companies will have their own white label software systems to do this and Lyft and Uber will become aggregators. New aggregators would emerge. But essentially these apps will just be aggregators without real power. What happened instead was that instead of embracing the advent of using mobile apps for hailing a cab, taxi companies started fighting it as if that was the culprit. France is passing weird laws that artificially make the experience bad for customers using taxi hailing apps. That is completely beyond me, perhaps I am too much of a nerd to understand that.

Anyway, we thought, lets just solve this. So we built a software product that enables taxi cab companies compete with Uber and Lyft by giving the control back to the business owners. The first question is critical mass of taxis since there cannot be one company with all the taxies. This is where the aggregation comes in. All different implementations can talk to any third party systems via APIs to offer same inventory on multiple platforms. Uber and Lyft will have to take inventory from these APIs rather than directly from drivers.

Every taxi or cab service companies out there have two main problems to solve to be successful – how to get to their customers as fast as possible and how to reduce the idle time for their drivers. With GPS integration and mobile signals on smart devices, many new taxi companies have started inching closer to solving these issues with apps like Uber and Lyft.

And for sure, all the others out there want to start an Lyft or Uber clone for their taxi service.

But what if we tell you that there’s something better that we can provide you? A “Taxi App” for your cab service company which also takes care of communication efficiency between passengers, drivers, and shift managers assigning rides, is what we are talking about.

We have developed a white label taxi app solution that lets passengers order rides, look at nearby taxis available, send push notifications to drivers for assignments and lets the managers overlook the whole process – with all this being done seamlessly through the app.
